Information and Referral
This is an on-going service where staff either provides direct information or functions as a clearinghouse, directing individuals to other appropriate resources.
Individual and Systems Advocacy
This service assists people with disabilities to understand their rights and responsibilities under various federal and state laws dealing with housing, employment, education, community access, recreation, transportation, family and lifestyle.
Independent Living Skills Training
This Is the sharing of any information or support which enables individuals to function as independently as possible, in the community.
This service is provided by people with disabilities who may be staff members, consumers, or other individuals who are in a position to be of assistance as a result of their own life experiences.
When the concept of transition was introduced into the federal law hip responded in two ways:
- Services for students with disabilities are provided to facilitate their seamless transition from their school program to the world of adult services which includes training in self-advocacy, independent living skills and support coordination in conjunction with the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities.
- Individuals in institutional settings may benefit from counseling to assist in making the transition back into the community.
